Shilpa Shetty to style cheer girls

Shilpa Shetty will select and dress cheer girls to pump in some glam at a martial arts tournament.

JODI BREAKERS MOVIE REVIEW

star cast: R Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Dipannati Sharma, Milind Soman, Helen

Directed by Ashwini Chowdhary

Rating: **1/2

Just when you think you've seen them all, from the hit jodis to the split jodis comes Jodi Breakers…. A jodi-daar pair, Madhavan and Bipasha Basu who set up a business of splitting couples…until they end up splitting the wrong couple. That's when all hell breaks loose.

The concept of a pair falling in love as they go about breaking couples is interesting enough to hold a 2-hour long rom-com together. Lamentably the episodes showing a pile-up of desperately-estranged couples seeking to find an escape from marriage are hardly as amusing as one would expect them to be, given the situation.

At various places the screenplay simply slithers to a standstill waiting for the writer's next brainwave. Until then there's always the song break. The music is all of the safe variety, expansive ballads, a sexy item song…download-able waste.

The interlude in Greece, though shot with picture-postcard resplendence, could have easily been avoided. Efforts to raise the glamour quotient progressively lower the inherent strengths of the screenplay until the film faces imminent erosion and depletion. Luckily disaster is averted by a charming end-game featuring Helen as a feisty busybody Goan grandma.

Madhavan and Bipasha Basu's screen presence goes a long way in covering up the film's frail passages. They seem to vibe well together and bring a kind of shared empathy to the proceedings that seems to suggest there's much more going on here than meets the eye. Madhavan in two dramatic key sequences holds the camera like a lover. Rest is brat-boy-fun-time stuff.

This could have been the perfect rom-com about an imperfect couple trying to make money out of broken-down relationships. Sadly, director Ashwini Choudhary fails to go the whole hog. Somewhere down the line the characters stop thinking and begin shrinking. They go through motions that are written for them.

And not very convincing motions at that.

If the film works at all it's because Madhavan and Bipasha make a cute couple and try to extract the maximum enjoyment from their under-written smart-on-top-shaky-at-the-bottom characters. Besides them you really won't find too many side-splitting moments in this film about jodi-splittng.

Vidya Balan plans a break and some dirty dancing

Bollywood star Vidya Balan wants to improve her vocabulary, on the one hand, to express her feelings towards the success of "The Dirty Picture". On the other, she is looking forward to a break and says post that she will do some "dirty dancing".

"I am close to saying yes to a film which will not start for another three months. So I really think I need that break because for the past two-and-a-half-years I have been busy with my films. So now I do need that time off to soak everything in. Then I will probably do some dirty dancing," the 33-year-old talented actor told IANS.

An unofficial biopic of southern sex siren Silk Smitha(vidya), "The Dirty Picture" saw Vidya shedding all inhibitions to get under the skin of the character and said: "I have become unapologetic about being myself. Probably others think that I don't breathe the same air. I just take that as a compliment, but I have a long way to go but yes god has been kind."

Ranbir, Deepika back together?

Former lovers, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have apparently been spending 'quality' time together post her break-up with Sidhartha Mallya.

Life and love too, seem to have come a full circle for Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. After being together for over a year, going through a bitter break up and then getting back to being friends, the Kapoor lad and the model-turned-actress seem to be finding solace in each other's company once again.

They were seen bonding at Rohit Dhawan's wedding party. They were also spotted together in Los Angeles last week. Apart from that, they also start shooting for Ayan Mukerji's film in Nainital in March. So there is enough work to be discussed.
Also, post her break-up Deepika has been quite lonely and she has always maintained that Ranbir's one of the people who know her the most.

Well, there is little reason for them to not give it another shot. Dippy is single. Ranbir has never admitted to any relationship apart from the one with her. And apart from the 'cheating' bit she accused him of, they've had a rather amicable relationship. However, there were also recent reports on how Ranbir is now back with Katrina Kaif.

Katrina and Ranbir were seeing each other for a while, but then nothing really worked out. They did not meet each other for months together as both got busy with their projects. Ranbir was a little commitment phobic then that doesn't seem to have changed.

Despite being linked with numerous women including Nargis Fakhri, Ranbir has always kept in touch with Deepika, and made himself available whenever she needed him.

Deepika too has been quoted saying, "We will always be friends."

Are they thinking of taking it to another level? Says the source, "He has even visited her at her new apartment. Plus they know each other very closely.

"So there is little surprise that she is leaning on him at this point."

Ranbir's spokesperson however blatantly denied the story.

TERE NAAL LOVE HO GAYA MOVIE REVIEWS

STAR Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D'Souza, Om Puri, Tinnu Anand, Smita Jaykar

Director: Mandeep Kumar

STAR Rating: ***1/2

It's a sweet love story. A little too sweet perhaps. But handled impressively well, considering it is Mandeep Kumar's debut direction.

Viren (Ritesh Deshmukh), is a rickshaw driver in Haryana. Minnie (Genelia) is from a rich family and she wants to escape from getting married to a no-gooder, so she forcibly gets herself kidnapped by hapless Viren. They in turn end up getting kidnapped by kidnapped by someone else.

The best thing I like about this film is the consistency of direction. The film stays true to its fibre and its environment. And yes, a special mention should be made of the dialogues (Dhieyo Sandhu). They are funny and actually fit well into the setting of the film. Even though the girl falling in love with her kidnapper (forced or otherwise) is a weather beaten story premise, this one has some surprise twists and turns. The 'Agwah ghar', the chief kidnapper Chaudhuri (Om Puri), who is struggling to keep up with his growing 'business', the magical thief (Chitrashi Rawat) etc add to the fun.

Remember the time you had too many laddoos or barfis haha! You were happy but a little uncomfortable and kind of mentally sworn off sweets for a while? You get that feeling from this film. But then what the heck, if you have a sweet tooth, just watch it once. You will come out smiling.
